As of January, 2012 and for the last year and a half, our sales levels have been comfortably above pre-recession sales. Judging by what customers are telling us, we're benefitting from the fact that most people have become more careful with their money. This re-orientation has two aspects: (1) financial considerations - -many people realize that typical sofas and chairs in stores these days (unlike ours) will usually last only 1 1/2 to 3 years - - and they are no longer willing to waste their money that way; and (2) environmental considerations: people want to avoid repeatedly buying bulky objects whose manufacture and shipping will consume energy and other non-renewable resources and emit greenhouse gases, and then all too soon will be adding to the overflowing landfills. We hope this is the beginning of the end for the throw-away society, a trend which can only help a company with products like ours.

We have also benefited from the shakeout in U.S. furniture manufacturing. We have very little competition these days except for cheaply-made (but initially-nice-looking) imports from China and Vietnam. There are many people who like the idea of buying American, not only because they realize that low price often means a waste of money, but also because they know that importing of bulky products from half-way around the world results in considerable harmful emissions, emissions that contribute to climate change and that also cause serious health effects to millions of Americans. (For specifics from the EPA about mortality and serious health effects of ocean shipping on many thousands of Americans, see www.comfy1.com/epastatement.htm .)

Also, as people are realizing that most traditional investment products are either very unrewarding or very risky these days, they are coming to appreciate the benefits of purchasing real, useful things that will endure, such as investment-quality furniture. Since this furniture will save you major expenditures on repeated replacements over several decades, the return on your investment can be substantial, and the gains are non-taxable at that. In addition to the financial rewards, this furniture provides beauty to your home and comfort to you every day. If you haven't yet read our collection of letters and e-mails from customers who speak from experience about the long-term value of our furniture, we invite you to do so by clicking here
